National Energy University (NEC)

The National Energy Centre (NEC) is envisioned as a national asset and a beacon for the energy research community. Equipped with world-class facilities and supported by leading scientific minds, NEC stands at the forefront of energy research with more than 20 laboratories.

NEC is built upon six Research Institutes that serve as its key pillars:

Institute of Sustainable Energy (ISE)
Institute of Power Engineering (IPE)
Institute of Energy Infrastructure (IEI)
Institute of Energy Policy and Research (IEPRE)
Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE)
Institute of Nuclear Energy (INE)

ISE has been recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education as a Higher Education Centre of Excellence (HICoE) — a prestigious recognition awarded to only a few institutions. With this honour, UNITEN becomes the second private university in Malaysia to receive this distinction.

This recognition reflects a strong commitment to advancing NEC’s mission in driving innovative energy research and breakthrough technologies that benefit academia, industry, government, society, and the environment — establishing NEC as a national asset for generations to come.

Research Excellence Center (REC)

The Research Excellence Center (REC) supports the development, management, and advancement of research initiatives by providing an organized framework for collaboration, knowledge generation, and innovation. Through effective coordination and research governance, REC aims to enhance research quality, promote interdisciplinary engagement, and facilitate impactful outcomes that contribute to academic excellence and industry relevance. UNITEN R&D Sdn Bhd

UNITEN R&D Sdn Bhd (URND) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Universiti Tenaga Nasional. The company provides a platform for research and development, technology transfer and IP commercialisation activities involving academics, government agencies and industries to harness the next generation technologies in order to catalyse dynamic, relevant, excellent and productive research in the country.
