Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE)

Established in December 2016, the Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE) is UNITEN’s multidisciplinary research institute for digital intelligence and advanced computing in the energy sector. IICE integrates information and communication technologies with energy systems to support greater efficiency, reliability, resilience, sustainability and intelligent decision-making.

Its core expertise lies in Energy Informatics, which integrates and applies artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics and visualisation, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, software engineering, augmented and mixed reality, and human–computer interaction to the energy domain. Through these capabilities, the institute develops intelligent systems, secure digital platforms and industry-ready computing solutions for energy, infrastructure and other strategic sectors.

IICE also supports applied research through specialised facilities, including an IoT Living Lab for smart-building and energy optimisation studies, and an AI Data Centre developed with TNB ICT for AI research and industrial applications. By connecting academia, industry, government agencies and communities, IICE advances digital transformation, responsible energy management, technology development, consultancy and capacity building in support of Malaysia’s sustainable energy transition.
