Nuklear Pelengkap Masa Depan Negara

5 June 2026

4 June 2026 - University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) once again brought its expertise to the national media through an appearance on Malaysia Petang Ini on Bernama TV. The programme featured Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Rahmat, Senior Lecturer at the College of Engineering, UNITEN, in a discussion titled "Nuklear Pelengkap Masa Depan Negara".

During the segment, Dr. Muhammad emphasised on the importance of understanding the safe application of nuclear technology and explored the extent to which nuclear energy can be integrated into everyday civilian use. He also shared his insights, supported by facts and research, on how Malaysia can learn from developed nations such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has successfully embraced nuclear energy as part of its national energy strategy.

In addition, Dr. Muhammad addressed common public concerns regarding the safety of nuclear energy, particularly in light of past disasters such as Chernobyl and Fukushima. He explained how technological advancements and continuous improvements in reactor design have significantly enhanced the safety standards of modern nuclear power systems.

"Perkembangan teknologi nuklear dalam penjanaan kuasa, dah bertahun-tahun kita memperbaiki with every incident. Macam incident seperti Chernobyl, Fukushima, those are disastrous events and they did a lot of damage. Tetapi with every passing incident, penambahbaikan telah dibuat. Contoh yang paling baik yang saya boleh bagi adalah bila insiden Fukushima di Jepun. Incident itu berlaku dan telah menyebabkan seluruh global fleet of nuclear membuat perbaikan which introduces the idea of kita sekarang ini ada reaktor gen 3. Because of the Fukushima incident, kita melahirkan generation baru which is generation 3 plus. So dengan perkembangan setiap iteration of the technology, it becomes safer and safer. The easiest metric yang boleh saya bagi untuk nak menyelelahkan keselamatan nuklear is basically dari segi ada study yang telah mengembangkan bahawa bagi setiap 1 juta kilowatt hour of energy generated by coal petrol natural gas, nuklear, hidro dan banyak-banyaknya, nuklear telah mendapat nombor yang sangat rendah dari segi insiden yang berlaku..."

As nations continue to pursue cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions, nuclear energy is expected to play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix. Through public discussions, UNITEN remains committed to educating the community and contributing informed perspectives on emerging technologies that will shape the future.
